Sculptural Secrets

My sculptures are hand crafted using a sun dried, paper clay composite. Wax is applied layer by layer to build the surface. After each layer is applied it is fused, very delicately with fire. Some sculptures are embellished with found objects, usually nuts and seeds from the bush. Others are enhanced with oil paint and pigments.

All sculptures are finished with shellac, another natural product that I use in many of my works. I colour my shellac using dry pigments. After I apply the shellac I then torch the surface to cause reticulation, ultimately ending up with a beautiful, lace like, patten on the surface of the work.

I also apply encaustic medium to Stag Head Skulls which can be customised to suit any decor.
